As usual, we asked a shopkeeper if there was a library near by. There was, 5 minutes away. And what a surprise after the small libraries we have seen everywhere else. This was was a military complex built in the 60s and renovated for the library in the 90s. We asked at the circulation desk if someone could tell us about the library and she sent us upstairs to the reference desk where a nice young man named Anton showed us around. Excellent English. The reading rooms are well lit. There is a small room with toys for pre-schoolers, a play room for older kids, and three different exhibits going on at the same time. Almost all of their collection is on the nationwide electronic network so their holdings are available to other libraries and they can borrow from other libraries. But, as usual, money is a problem. They have computers but they need to be updated. Software is old. Elevator for disabled doesn’t always work. But it was a lively place with families, kids, readers, and visitors to the exhibits, one of which, a photo exhibit was opening while we were there.
