Although jewelry, library advocacy, and travel may seem like a strange trio, I wanted a website that reflects the different aspects of my life and how they intersect.  As you navigate through the site, you will see some beautiful pieces of jewelry that make perfect gifts or snazzy accessories, and you’ll see how my library career led to consulting and library advocacy, that led to travel that led to jewelry and how they all come together now.

A librarian…

First and foremost, I’m a librarian with a strong commitment to the importance and value of libraries in our society. I started my library career working in libraries but when my first child was born in 1981, I started an independent library consulting company so that I could (theoretically) spend more time with my son Jonathan.

All my life I have loved traveling and my husband, Bob, does as well. When Jonathan was young, we didn’t think twice about taking him out of school for the cultural experience of learning about new places and people. As a library consultant and then as State Librarian in Colorado, I found that I had more and more opportunities to travel around across the United States. Then in 1995, I welcomed a librarian from Bulgaria to spend five months at my library. That led to the beginning of regular international travel and I visited Bulgaria to work with libraries as a consultant.

And I fell in love with their creativity in jewelry and crafts. I wanted to buy it and show it to my friends in the US. The first jewelry that I brought back sold within an hour at a small craft show. So, I bought more… and more… and more.  And inspired by the creativity I’ve seen around the world, I’ve started making my own jewelry and crafts.

So, that is how it all ties together. I have mostly retired from consulting, focusing more on library advocacy. However, Bob and I still travel extensively in the US and around the world. We take people on tours to our favorite countries. Wherever we go we buy jewelry to bring back to the US to sell. I am very active in IFLA (an international library association) and the Colorado Association of Libraries and we donate part of the proceeds of all sales to a fund that provides grants to librarians working internationally.
